When does your passion become your profession? In 2022, I discovered Twitch.tv and found my answer.
I found myself surrounded by live content creators that were sharing their passions, be they video games, cooking, life skills, or any other activity that piques one's interest. I thought, 'I'm playing video games anyway...Why not stream them?' I went live for the first time on November 17th, 2022. Within moments I had my first viewers, and I was hooked!
My friends and supporters helped me achieve Affiliate status on January 11th, 2023. From there, my focus has been creating a quality stream. I've invested in software and hardware to provide the highest quality broadcasts possible. Several game titles have been added to my collection, some of which I never would have tried otherwise. I've experimented with so many different topics; trying things, seeing what works and what doesn't, adjusting, and trying again.
The more work I put into my stream, the more I fell in love with the process. I went to TwitchCon 2023 in Las Vegas where I met some of my favorite streamers. What blew me away was that they were just as excited to meet me as I was to meet them! I came across people that recognized my stream name! I had fans!
Coming off the high of such an exhilarating adventure had my brain churning with new ideas. I was formulating plans, developing my brand, focusing my content, and trimming away what wasn't working as intended. I celebrated the anniversaries of my first stream and reaching the Affiliate milestone. Then, I had a devastating hardware failure on my PC that left me unable to stream for most of 2024.
After months of troubleshooting, I realized that I'd have to buy an entirely new PC. It was devastating. I wasn't sure if I'd ever stream again, but I didn't give up. I managed to build a higher end rig that should last me for quite a while. I've been rebuilding my brand to incorporate what I've learned. My biggest fear was that I would go live with no one but crickets to watch me. Imagine how floored I was to see my core group of viewers chatting with me again! It was such a relief, and totally validated that I could be a successful streamer.
It has been an amazing journey so far! I've celebrated my first streaming anniversary, traveled to TwitchCon 2024 in San Diego, my community is growing, my work has helped the charities I care about, and I'm just as excited to go live as I was the first time. I still have a lot of work to do, but the future is looking bright! I can't wait to see what's in store for me in 2025!
